Lavender Love: 5 Clean and Calming Lavender Beauty Products

IMG_8662

Since delving into the realm of clean and natural beauty products, I noticed that I have accumulated a number of lavender-scented products. I didn’t used to be a big fan of floral scents, but natural products have really changed the game for me in terms of what defines “floral.” I learned that there’s a big difference between fragrance from essential oils and artificial fragrance concocted in a lab. Lavender essential oil has a pleasing, rarely overbearing scent that’s been used for centuries to reduce stress and anxiety. And who couldn’t benefit from reduced stress and anxiety, especially at this time of year? Lavender also has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, and it can even be used as a mosquito repellant. Personally, I can’t get enough of the stuff. So without further ado, here are five of my favorite lavender-scented products.

1. Dr. Bronner’s Organic Shaving Soap in Lavender

I love Dr. Bronner’s products in general for their organic ingredients, but this product has particularly impressed me. I have noticed significantly less irritation after shaving my legs since I began using this product–perhaps because of lavender’s antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. My only issue with this soap is the packaging. The cap is on the bottom of the bottle instead of the top, which would be suitable for a shaving cream, but this stuff is a liquid, which results in a lot of spills and wasted product if you’re not super careful. If Dr. Bronner could just put this soap in a bottle that opens from the top (preferably a plastic-free one), then it would be perfect.

2. Alaffia Body Wash in Lemon Lavender

I’ve written about this body wash in a previous post, but I really love it. It’s a multi-use product that’s marketed as a shampoo and body wash, but I tend to use it as a body wash or bubble bath. There’s nothing better than a calming lavender-scented bubble bath at the end of a stressful day. Lavender is commonly used in aromatherapy for a reason!

3. Alaffia Body Lotion in Lemon Lavender

This definitely does its job of moisturizing my skin, but it’s the scent that really puts this lotion over the edge. I tend to shower at night, so I love to slather this lotion on afterward, just before bed. It really helps me relax before drifting off to sleep.

4. Native Deodorant in Lavender and Rose

Native is definitely one of the longest-lasting natural deodorants I have tried in terms of keeping away the stink, BUT I also find it to be really irritating to my skin. Every scent I have tried (coconut and vanilla, lemon zest and pomegranate, and even unscented), has left me with angry red rashes under my arms. The one exception to this is the lavender and rose scent. I used this version every day for several months and experienced no bumps, redness, or irritation like I did with the other scents. I’m not a dermatologist, but I’d be willing to bet it’s because the lavender acts as an anti-inflammatory and counteracts the irritation caused by the baking soda. Regardless of the reason, this is the only variety of Native Deodorant I will use.

5. Seed Geeks Lip Balm in Lavender Lemon

I picked up this amazing lip balm at my local farmer’s market. I’m particularly wary of the ingredients in lip balm, and if there’s anything I can’t pronounce, I don’t buy it. This one contains only sunflower oil, beeswax, cocoa butter, lavender and lemon essential oils, and vitamin E. Plus it glides on super smoothly and smells amazing!

Are there any lavender products that you love? Leave me a comment–I’d love to hear about them!
