Make Your Vacation More Meaningful

July 12, 2018July 6, 2018 / thebetterplanetproject / 1 Comment

Greetings, from Colombia! I’m on vacation this week, but I wanted to share a recent discovery that I’m really excited about. There’s nothing I love more than traveling. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit a lot of different places around the world, and some of them have left me feeling very rich by local standards. … Continue reading Make Your Vacation More Meaningful

It’s repotting day for Johann Sebastian Bachia, my dieffenbachia plant. He’s one of my oldest surviving plants and was overdue for a roomier home! I used a homemade aloe vera fertilizer to help ease the transition. I’m hoping he’ll be much happier with more space to spread out! Swipe to see the “before.”🪴💕
I don’t really know how to post my usual, sustainability-related content when seemingly every day, I wake up to more news of gun violence, including both mass shootings and the state-sanctioned murder of black people at the hands of police. This time, 8 people were killed in the city I call home. A country in which events like this happen all the time is a country in which the rule of law is fundamentally flawed. And yet conservatives are more concerned with preventing people from exercising their constitutional right to vote than they are with preventing senseless violence and the deaths of innocent people.
I had a beautiful weekend spending time outdoors (when it wasn’t raining). It felt so good to unplug for a few days and enjoy the fresh air and flowers. 🌷
I don’t know why it has taken me so long to try sprouting beans/legumes at home, but I think this is going to be a regular thing now! Thank you thank you @zerowastechef and @thefarminmyflat for the inspiration! I started with lentils since I happened to have a big jar from the bulk store, and after 3 days, they’ve quadrupled in size, and they have some nice little tails to show off! Can’t wait to try them! 😋
I’m excited to try out @dropps laundry and dishwasher pods for the first time! Lucky for me, I was able to buy them locally from the refill bar at @onatahgeneral for zero waste laundry and dish washing! I used to use the powder detergent that comes in a cardboard box. These use significantly less plastic than the liquid detergent sold in bottles, but most still have some plastic as part of the package, such as a plastic handle and/or scoop. By switching to Dropps from the refill bar, there isn’t even a box to recycle! 🙌 #smallwins
Bulk sections like this one make me happy!
